First let’s see the channel of flow of air
1. Air compressor piston pump
2. Air governor
3. Air dryer
4. Dual air duct
5. Air tank
6. Actuator

WORKING:
We have seen an extra piston cylinder is mounted over an auto-mobile engine in which we do not pour any fuel it just move up & down! But wait it play very important role regarding our safety yes it compresses the air for power brakes used in vehicle.
So now we know that air is supplied and compressed in AIR COMPRESSOR PISTON CYLINDER, now air travel from here to GOVERNOR through pipeline via DUAL AIR DUCT*

DUAL AIR DUCT: it act as the inlet & outlet port for air it has total 6 port with marking as follows
11-inlet to air dryer,
12-optional or helper port for driver in case he want air to fill in tire,
21 & 22- one of this port is connected to the air tank for front wheels & other port is connected to the pressure measuring gauge on driver’s dashboard.

23 & 24-smilarly here also   one of this port is connected to the air tank for rear wheels & other port is connected to the pressure measuring gauge on drivers dashboard.
AIR DRYER: As name signify dryer it means that is dry air from moisture, oil, dirt and other impurities coming from the air compressing piston it is very necessary that air should be free from all impurities because if it doesn’t happen moisture and oil particles will get accumulated in tank and even cause choking of pipe line joining the tank and actuators.
AIR GOVERNOR: After completely drying the air the air governor according to load send air to tank and it also indicates that air is completely filled and dried by sneezing the air which cause a formation of sound as which cause when a human sneeze! When air is completely filed the governor send the air to tank. Sometimes you have heard a sound come from automobile of leaking of air it is sound that indicates that air dryer is completely filled.
AIR TANK: You have seen 2 tank are mounted horizontally with chassis in buses or truck they are just for accumulating air at times need of pressurized air while braking!
ACTUATORS: They are the devices which are mounted on the S-CAM. The function of the actuators is when  pressurized air come into the actuators the spring inside  expand or contract due to this handle which is attached to S-CAM  also moves, due to movement of S-cam  the break shoe expand and get contact with hub and provide resistance there and our wheel stops.
