INTRODUCTION

->The advantage of rotary motion have far long been known and appreciated,it
includes number of patent including the patent of rotary Steam Engine by James
Watt in1769.
->Scheffel in 1952,get patent for rotary engine,utilised the principle that oval or
elliptical tower can be designed to maintain contact,while turning about find centres
and that three or more rotars can to enclose between them a continously varying
volume.
->Felia Wankel(German),got a patent for design of four phase rotary engine working
on otto cycle principle.
->Later on Dr.FROEDE made the inner rotar or bit while it rotated,and permitted the
outer body to kept stationary,such simple arrangement allowed attachment of intake,

exhaust and ignition system and coolant system.

This is call KKM [Kries Kolbenmotor] engine and popularly "WANKEL ENGINE".

WORKING PRINCIPLE

->The Wankel RC engine works on familiar four phase cycle principle,it's having
mainly two moving parts - one rotor and the other ecentric or output shaft with
integral ecentric.
->The four phases are intake,compression,power(or exp.) and exhaust of wankel
RC engine.
->Breathing is through parts so that valve and valve mechanism not needed.

FEATURES/ADVANTAGE

->There are no reciprocating parts,problem of unbalance caused by inertia of
reciprocating part and complicated engine vibrations is elimnated.
->No valve mechanism,hence results in effective valve timing of engine,even at
high speeds.
->Time for one Stroke is 270' and there is one explosion for one rotation of output
shaft.
->Long intake stroke means that volumetric efficency becomes higher even at high
speed range and reduces the torque drop.

Limitation and why it's so popular?

It,s not become successful mainly due to the failure of apex seal on the straight line
contact between rotor casing and apex,AISO,side gas and corner seals have not been
successful in preventing,mixture,gas leakage.

LIMITATION

->High compression ratio difficult to achieve.
->Inefficent combustion.
->High surface volume ratio.
->Scraping of wall layer,high fuel consumption.

APPLICATION

->High performance motor cycle.
->Outboard engine.
->Chain saw engine.
->Passenger car(Mazda,japan
